H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses

What To Know When Buying Through Us.

Yes, we do obviously do this as a career. “This” is selling and training horses. However, when buying through us, you can buy with confidence because if we didn’t like them, they wouldn’t be with us. We are a quality-over-quantity business. You won’t find 20 horses standing around to be sold with us. What you’ll find is a select few that have proven they are worth owning for a lifetime. All horses get put to the test. Not the test your typical “trader” puts them through which consists of a 10-minute ride to deem what the horse knows so it can be shuffled to the next person. Our horses get used, hauled, and allowed the appropriate amount of time to show us what they’re truly made of. The horses sold by us are also typically ones we have known for an extensive amount of time prior to us owning them, or we know their story from the start so there are no guesses as to the quality of the horse we are presenting to the public. We pride ourselves in matching the horse to the rider. We love each and every horse that goes through our program and we want them to be matched with the best home possible so they can continue to thrive and be the partner we know they can be!

Below you can find frequently asked questions, our Bill of Sale, a Buyers Guide, and our Hauler List. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you may still have.

  • Do you offer trials?
All buyers are encouraged to come see, meet, and try each horse we offer. We do our best to be as transparent and as honest as possible about the horse and if we believe they would be a good fit for you, but trying the horse yourself is always the surefire way to know if y'all are a compatible match. If you would like to try the horse at a different location than our place, we're happy to accommodate if our schedule allows. We do not allow our horses to go home with potential buyers for off-site trials.
  • What comes with the horse when purchased?
All horses sold will come with any registration paperwork (if applicable), a Bill Of Sale, and a Coggins. A Health Certificate will be needed if the horse will be traveling outside of Texas to be delivered to you. The Health Certificate is the responsibility of the buyer. We are more than happy to take the horse to our vet to get one. Health Certificates cost $50. You can find an example of our Bill Of Sale below the FAQ.
  • What if I need my horse delivered?
We have a large list of reputable haulers you can contact and receive quotes from. If you live within a reasonable distance of us and our schedule allows, we're happy to haul your new horse to you for $1.75 per mile. You can find our Hauler List below the FAQ.
  • What guarantees do you offer?
We do our absolute best to represent horses as accurately as possible and to find them the right fit when it comes to a rider and home. We guarantee that everything stated about a horse is FACTS that we have proven or witnessed ourselves. All horses sold by us, privately or through an auction, come with the option to be sent back for a 30-day tune-up at no cost to you as well. All we ask is that you supply the feed/hay for the time they are with us. Why do we offer this? Because we understand life can happen. Although no horse has ever needed to come back for a tune-up, we understand that there may be a time when the horse sits for a while and you’re uncomfortable making the first ride back.
  • Soundness Guarantee / PPEs
All horses are sold "As Is" but if we thought a horse was lame or unsound, we would not be advertising it. We guarantee to state any known blemishes, needed maintenance, or past injuries. We encourage all buyers to have their own PPE done on any horse purchased whether through us or someone else. Most of our horses will already have a lameness exam on file and will be posted onto their page.
  • What form of payment do you accept?
All horses can be purchased with cash or a wire transfer. We do not accept PayPal. We do not take any checks, personal or cashiers.
  • Do you do holding deposits?
We do not hold horses or take holding deposits. All horses are sold on a first come first serve basis. If you make an appointment to see the horse, please know the horse is not yours. The horse can still be sold to an individual sight unseen or in person if they make an earlier appointment. We do not try to sell horses out from under anyone. We will make all known prospective buyers aware of one another so no one can play the "well you didn't tell me someone else was interested" game.
  • Do you offer refunds?
We do not offer refunds on any horse sold. It may seem far-fetched to some, but we have had people purchase a horse from us just to go use it for the weekend, as they were short a horse, and then come back on Monday morning wanting their money back. We do our absolute best to match the horses to the correct rider as we want our horses to have the best home possible for them. If for some reason you are not happy with your new horse after the first week, please call us and we will do our best to resolve the issue amicably for all parties.
  • I've never bought sight unseen/through an auction and am nervous about doing so.
Firstly, please call us. We are more than happy to talk with you about your wants and desires when it comes to your next equine partner and to make sure the horse you are looking at is the best fit for you. Secondly, nearly 95% of our horses are sold sight unseen and/or through an auction so please don't think it's the wrong thing to do. We would like to think all of our successful sight unseen and auction sales are because of all of the material available on each horse. There is a reason each horse has so many videos on their YouTube Playlists. We want you to be able to see the horse as it truly is so you can make an educated decision on whether the horse is a good fit for you or not.
  • What is the process of an auction?
Horses are sold through in-person auctions with the option of bidding online or through online-only auctions. With both, you are more than welcome to come see, try, and vet the horse before purchasing. With in-person auctions, we cannot sell the horse before sale day. Once the horse is consigned, it must be sold through the auction. If you can, you are welcome to attend the auction that day and bid in person. If you are unable to attend, you can sign up for online bidding for the auction and bid from a computer or phone in the comfort of your home. After purchasing the horse from the auction, please contact us or the auction company so arrangements can be made if needed for delivery. With online-only auctions, once the auction is live we cannot sell the horse before the auction has ended. Most online auctions run for two weeks and have the option to place a "Max Bid" which will allow the system to bid against anyone up to your max. If the winning bid is below your max, you only pay the winning bid amount.
  • What is the process of buying sight unseen?
When buying sight unseen, we try to take the stress out of it. We try to provide as many details as possible on each horse as well as numerous videos for you to watch. Don't hesitate to call us with any questions so we can have an in-depth conversation with you to make sure the horse is a fit for you. Once you are ready to purchase, we can give you the needed information to make a wire transfer to purchase the horse. Once the wire transfer is received, we will then send you an e-sign request for an electronic Bill Of Sale. The Bill Of Sale must be signed within 24 hours of receiving it or your money will be sent back and the horse will be re-listed. After having purchased the horse, we can give you our list of reputable haulers to contact for dates and quotes. All horses must leave after 72 hours of being purchased or a $20 per day board bill will incur. The horse cannot leave with the hauler until the boarding bill has been paid.
